Headquartered in St. Louis, Ruveon will manage the full lifecycle of the glyphosate business, ranging from logistics and pricing to global go-to-market strategies. Alfonso Alba Ordóñez, a long-time Bayer veteran, will lead the new unit, with Steve Knodle overseeing commercial operations. This reorganization serves as a central pillar of a five-year growth strategy designed to bolster the profitability of Bayer’s crop science division.
The Supreme Court ruling last week confirmed that Bayer is not liable under state law for failing to include cancer warnings on Roundup packaging. While the Environmental Protection Agency maintains that the product is unlikely to cause cancer in humans, the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer continues to classify glyphosate as probably carcinogenic. Since its 2018 acquisition of Monsanto, Bayer has controlled roughly half of the global glyphosate supply, making this internal shift a critical step in managing the brand’s future in the face of ongoing public and regulatory scrutiny.
