Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez revealed the data during a June 30 address to the Association for the Development of Digital Assets. He confirmed that approximately 200 individuals have been arrested in connection with these crimes, either during active investigations or via preventive police operations. To combat the trend, the ministry is prioritizing intelligence sharing to reach organizers operating outside French borders, establishing a specialized network of industry experts, and deepening cross-border law enforcement cooperation.
The rise in violence follows a series of high-profile attacks, including the January 2025 kidnapping of Ledger co-founder David Balland. Criminal groups have increasingly targeted the families of industry executives, often utilizing social media recruitment and fake courier branding to facilitate their plots. While the arrest of key suspect Badiss Mohamed Amide Bajjou in Morocco last June led to a temporary decline in activity, the persistence of the threat has forced the government to integrate faster alert systems and closer collaboration with private sector firms. Currently, 724 industry actors have registered on national identification platforms, reflecting an 11% increase in security participation.
