SecondFi Shuts Down Following 16 Million ADA Exploit

The Cardano-based platform SecondFi will not resume normal operations following a security breach that drained 16 million ADA from 374 user wallets. EMURGO, the company behind the project, has officially pivoted its focus away from product development to prioritize asset recovery and user migration through secure, audited channels.

EMURGO confirmed the permanent shift in strategy as external investigators continue to review the underlying code and the mechanics of the exploit. The breach, which originated within the platform's native wallet generation software, has prompted the company to urge all remaining users to abandon the service immediately. While independent security firms conduct active audits, the firm warned against premature speculation regarding the incident, noting that partial findings could lead to inaccurate public information.

To manage the fallout, the team is developing a dedicated migration portal and secure wallet export tools, pending app store approval. These resources are designed to facilitate the transition of funds to hardware wallets or alternative platforms. Beyond digital tools, EMURGO plans to host an in-person migration workshop in Tokyo. The company is also developing an on-chain recovery mechanism, though it remains offline until rigorous external audits confirm its safety. Users are cautioned to rely exclusively on official channels, as scammers have already begun targeting victims with fraudulent support links and recovery claims.
