Yield Guild Games Shuts Down Publishing Arm, Pivots to AI Data

Yield Guild Games is terminating 35 roles and shuttering its YGG Play division, citing a collapse in gaming demand and shifting market conditions. The company, which once aimed to dominate Web3 game publishing, will now pivot its resources toward building behavioral datasets for artificial intelligence model training.

Yield Guild Games Shuts Down Publishing Arm, Pivots to AI Data

The decision to sunset YGG Play marks a strategic retreat from consumer-facing publishing, with the company retiring its launchpad and community rewards platform. While titles like LOL Land and Waifu Sweeper will be removed, other games such as GIGACHADBAT will continue operating independently. Co-founder Gabby Dizon described the move as a necessary reaction to market realities rather than a failure of the product itself, noting that the unit had previously generated $9 million in lifetime revenue.

To navigate the transition, YGG is offering affected staff eight weeks of severance pay and active hiring referrals. The company aims to leverage its global player base to generate complex decision-making data for AI, a sector it views as more commercially viable than current crypto gaming. With a treasury of $20.6 million, the firm reports that this restructuring successfully extends its operational runway to four years, positioning it to weather the ongoing contraction in the blockchain gaming industry.
