The U.S. Army has committed $84 million to procure additional Falcon manpack radios from L3Harris Technologies, marking the second major order under the military’s Next Generation Command and Control initiative. This latest investment follows a $24 million contract awarded to the Melbourne-based firm just last October.

The Falcon Advanced Data Node gateways utilize software-defined architectures to provide air-to-ground networking, routing, and in-line encryption. According to Chris Aebli, president of Mission Critical Communications at L3Harris, the systems are designed to adapt to the shifting technological threats soldiers encounter on the front lines. The hardware is already in global use, serving as a backbone for the Army's ongoing effort to modernize its tactical communication infrastructure.
