Metro Divests Montreal Bakery Facility to FGF Brands for C$90 Million

A 90-million-Canadian-dollar deal marks a strategic shift for Metro as it offloads its Baie-D'Urfe commercial bakery to FGF Brands. The Toronto-based manufacturer will assume control of production for Premiere Moisson products, allowing the grocery giant to streamline its operations while maintaining its retail footprint.

Metro Divests Montreal Bakery Facility to FGF Brands for C$90 Million

The transition involves the complete transfer of the Baie-D'Urfe facility staff to the new owner, FGF Brands. While the manufacturing arm changes hands, the Premiere Moisson brand remains under Metro’s umbrella. The grocer will continue to manage its 25 retail bakeries across Quebec, its in-store production units, and the Vaudreuil-Dorion French pastry facility.

Metro leadership framed the divestment as a move to concentrate capital on core retail and pharmaceutical distribution networks. By outsourcing production to the family-owned bakery firm, Metro seeks to simplify its supply chain without sacrificing the availability of Premiere Moisson goods in its Quebec and Ontario stores. The transaction is slated for completion by late September.
