Bitcoin Ordinals advocate proposes client to bypass Core transaction caps

Bitcoin Ordinals advocate Leonidas has unveiled a new open-source client dubbed Bitcoin $DOG Mode, designed to challenge long-standing policy restrictions within the Bitcoin network. The software aims to bypass transaction size limits and dust thresholds currently enforced by Bitcoin Core and Bitcoin Knots, rather than by the protocol’s consensus rules.

Bitcoin Ordinals advocate proposes client to bypass Core transaction caps

The proposed client seeks to expand the maximum individual transaction size from the current 400,000 weight units allowed by Bitcoin Core to 3.9 million weight units. Additionally, the software would lower the network's dust limit to a single satoshi, a significant reduction from the existing standard of 294 to 546 satoshis. Leonidas argues that these policy-driven barriers are not fundamental to Bitcoin's consensus, but rather self-imposed limits that hinder the functionality of Ordinals and Runes.

By enabling larger inscriptions and smaller transaction outputs, the client would facilitate the processing of bulkier data collections within individual transactions. While supporters view this as a necessary evolution for Bitcoin-native digital assets, critics have historically labeled such activity as network spam that consumes excessive block space. This initiative follows the recent closure of the Ordinals explorer Ord.io, which shuttered in May due to funding challenges after serving over 1 million users. Leonidas intends for the new client to pressure existing network operators to eventually reconsider current policy defaults.
