Loganair Bets on Electric Aviation with BETA Technologies Deal

Regional carrier Loganair has signed a term sheet to acquire five all-electric ALIA aircraft from BETA Technologies, signaling a shift toward sustainable short-haul transit. The agreement, which includes options for five additional units, pushed BETA shares up 7% to $19 as investors weighed the timeline for commercial deployment.

The proposed fleet is scheduled to enter active service by 2029, utilizing existing runway infrastructure across the Loganair network. To maintain schedules, the aircraft will rely on proprietary fast-charging systems designed to power the battery in 20 to 40 minutes. This commitment follows a successful March demonstration program where the ALIA aircraft completed 23 flights, logging over 1,000 nautical miles to stress-test ground handling and airport integration protocols.

BETA Technologies has seen its stock climb approximately 12% over the last three months as the company moves from the testing phase toward firm commercial contracts. By leveraging current airport layouts rather than requiring specialized vertical infrastructure, the partnership aims to lower the barrier to entry for regional electric flight.
