US Grain Export Inspections Miss USDA Forecasts

U.S. grain exports hit a speed bump last week, with corn, soybeans, and wheat all failing to meet the volume targets set by the Agriculture Department. The latest data reveals a decline across the board, leaving current inspection figures trailing behind the pace required to hit the USDA's annual export projections.

US Grain Export Inspections Miss USDA Forecasts

Corn inspections reached 1.55 million metric tons for the week ending July 16, while soybean volume hit 296,972 tons and wheat trailed at 213,993 tons. According to analysis from the Hightower Report, these figures fall short of the thresholds necessary to satisfy the agency's current outlook. Mexico remains the primary buyer for U.S. corn and wheat shipments, while China maintains its position as the top destination for soybean exports.

Market response to the news has been fractured. On the Chicago Board of Trade, most-active corn futures climbed 1%, and soybeans followed with a 1.9% gain. Wheat futures moved in the opposite direction, slipping 1.1% during Monday's session.
