The platform, dubbed Thunder, functions as a Group 5 autonomous attack rotorcraft intended to complement existing crewed military aircraft. By utilizing a hybrid-electric propulsion system and dual tiltrotors, the vehicle aims to balance vertical takeoff capabilities with the efficiency of wingborne cruise flight. This configuration is engineered to increase payload capacity and speed while lowering the aircraft's acoustic signature during low-altitude maneuvers.
Archer and Anduril have already conducted multiple test flights with full-scale surrogate models to validate the design. While the companies target a maiden flight for the Thunder platform in 2027, commercial expansion is moving faster.
