Grayscale Files for Worldcoin ETF as WLD Market Sentiment Shifts

A 4.5% price bump for Worldcoin followed Grayscale’s move to register a spot ETF with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The proposed product, filed to trade on Nasdaq under the ticker GWLD, seeks to offer investors direct exposure to the World Network token without the complexities of self-custody.

The registration statement details a passive investment vehicle that would hold WLD as its primary asset, tracking the CoinDesk Worldcoin Benchmark Rate. While Grayscale has yet to finalize key terms—including management fees and initial seed investment—the structural framework outlines a system where authorized participants create or redeem shares in blocks of 10,000. BitGo Bank & Trust is slated to hold the underlying assets, with BNY Mellon serving as the administrator.

Market reaction was immediate, with WLD climbing to $0.37 and breaking the upper boundary of a four-hour descending channel. Technical indicators show fading selling pressure, as the MACD line crossed above its signal line. Despite this short-term optimism, the token remains roughly 97% below its March 2024 peak of $11.80. The prospectus warns that the path to approval is uncertain, citing significant regulatory headwinds regarding the project's biometric data collection practices and the potential for adverse rulings in international jurisdictions.
