The new architecture centers on a client-side execution engine integrated with Noir, a domain-specific language designed for private smart contracts. Unlike the Ethereum Virtual Machine, which requires nodes to process all transaction data, Aztec generates recursive SNARKs locally. These proofs confirm the validity of state changes while keeping transaction values and account identities hidden from public view.
To bridge the gap between private and public operations, Aztec employs a hybrid state model. Private assets reside in UTXO-like note trees, while public data is managed via key-value trees. This separation allows developers to build decentralized applications that interact with shared liquidity pools while retaining the ability to execute confidential logic. According to Aztec, this design minimizes state contention and reduces risks associated with front-running and Maximal Extractable Value (MEV), as transaction details remain obscured until state commitment.
This release follows the integration of ZKPassport, an identity platform acquired by Aztec in May 2026. By allowing users to prove identity attributes—such as age or nationality—without revealing full records, the technology aims to balance privacy with regulatory compliance. These developments arrive as the team moves past recent security incidents involving legacy, deprecated products from 2021 and 2022, which the foundation maintains are entirely separate from the current network infrastructure.
