Bitget Targets U.S. Market Entry Independent of CLARITY Act Progress

With or without the proposed CLARITY Act, Bitget is moving forward with plans to enter the United States market. CEO Gracy Chen confirmed the exchange has abandoned its previous sideline strategy, shifting focus toward securing necessary money-transmitter, derivatives, and broker-dealer licenses for a standalone American entity.

The exchange is currently preparing to establish a dedicated U.S. business, a move that marks a significant change in direction following a 2022 decision to retreat amid heightened regulatory scrutiny and the industry-wide fallout from the FTX collapse. Chen emphasized that while federal legislation like the CLARITY Act could provide a more predictable environment, the company no longer views congressional action as a prerequisite for its entry.

Beyond traditional crypto trading, Bitget is exploring the integration of tokenized equities into its U.S. strategy. The company has engaged in preliminary discussions with the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq regarding the distribution of tokenized traditional assets. This initiative aligns with recent performance data, as tokenized stocks accounted for 20% to 30% of the platform’s spot trading volume last quarter. Currently, Bitget’s Reality platform manages over $100 million in assets, featuring 1:1-backed equities and ETFs that can serve as trading collateral.

Securing a foothold in the U.S. will require navigating complex securities and derivatives oversight, a process the company intends to complete before offering any services to the public. This measured approach mirrors the exchange's broader international expansion, which includes a pending MiCAR application in Austria and recent registration efforts in Argentina. While Bitget has not yet provided a specific launch date, the strategy remains firm: establishing a localized, compliant structure before opening its doors to American users.
