Citigroup is escalating its push into the technology sector, recruiting five managing directors from Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, and UBS. This hiring spree, spanning New York and San Francisco, signals a strategic effort to bolster the bank’s footprint in payments, artificial intelligence, and semiconductor dealmaking.

Chris Groe, departing Bank of America, will spearhead the firm’s efforts in payments, fintech, and digital assets from the New York office starting this September. His arrival marks a significant shift in the bank's leadership structure as they target high-growth financial technologies.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco team is expanding with four new managing directors. Florian Plath joins to cover software and semiconductor firms, while Dhruv Fotadar will manage enterprise infrastructure clients with a focus on AI. They are joined by Anand Agarwal, who will also concentrate on semiconductors and AI, and Josh Sheets, a former UBS executive tasked with overseeing vertical software companies.
