A key component of the deal involves a 1,000-megawatt demand response commitment, one of the largest single-site arrangements in the United States. By allowing Georgia Power to throttle electricity delivery during grid stress, OpenAI provides a reliability buffer that could offset the need for new power plants. This strategic buildout aligns with OpenAI’s broader capital expenditure surge, which recently saw the company raise its projected infrastructure spending through 2030 to $750 billion.
