Louisiana Pension Fund Increases MicroStrategy Stake

The Louisiana State Employees’ Retirement System has expanded its indirect exposure to Bitcoin, increasing its holding in MicroStrategy to 21,300 shares. Regulatory filings reveal the $16.3 billion pension fund added 700 shares during the second quarter, signaling a continued, albeit modest, commitment to the software company’s crypto-heavy balance sheet.

The additional investment brings the total value of the pension system's MicroStrategy position to approximately $2.13 million, based on July valuations. While the move provides exposure to the world’s largest corporate Bitcoin treasury, it remains a fractional component of the fund’s broader $17.2 billion asset portfolio. The retirement system manages 24 plans for over 150,000 members, primarily utilizing traditional equities and diversified assets.

MicroStrategy functions as a unique proxy for Bitcoin, as its stock price often correlates with the firm's massive holdings of 843,775 BTC. However, the company’s valuation is also influenced by its enterprise software operations and capital financing decisions, distinguishing it from direct-hold spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds. This expansion aligns with a growing trend among institutional investors, as retirement systems from Indiana to Japan explore diverse, regulated pathways to integrate digital assets into public funds.
