Coinbase Doubles Down on Singapore Hub with Hiring Push

Coinbase has opened a new office at One Raffles Quay in Singapore, signaling a strategic commitment to the region. The crypto exchange plans to grow its local headcount by one-third, reaching approximately 200 employees by the end of 2026, even as it navigates global volatility and shifting regulatory landscapes.

Coinbase Doubles Down on Singapore Hub with Hiring Push

The expansion focuses on engineering, customer service, and institutional sales, according to Singapore country director Hassan Ahmed. Despite a 14% global workforce reduction earlier this year aimed at streamlining operations, the company views Singapore as a vital anchor for its Asia-Pacific strategy. Ahmed cited the nation’s early regulatory clarity and business-friendly environment as primary drivers for the investment.

Since securing a Major Payment Institution license in 2023, Coinbase has integrated itself into the local ecosystem, including a partnership with the Singapore Economic Development Board to foster engineering talent. The firm is now looking toward the intersection of blockchain and artificial intelligence, exploring ways to equip AI agents with stablecoin wallets. This move reflects a broader institutional appetite for tokenized assets and 24/7 financial markets, trends Ahmed believes will continue to gain momentum as more governments establish dedicated digital asset frameworks.
