Navitas and Magnachip Forge Silicon Carbide Power Alliance

Magnachip Semiconductor is moving into the high-voltage power market through a strategic licensing agreement with Navitas Semiconductor. By integrating Navitas’ trench-assisted planar technology, Magnachip gains the capability to manufacture silicon carbide devices rated for 1,200 volts and beyond, targeting the growing demands of industrial and automotive electrification sectors.

Under the terms of the partnership, Magnachip will internalize Navitas’ GeneSiC technology at its fabrication facility in South Korea. This transition allows Magnachip to bypass lengthy development cycles, leveraging Navitas’ existing supply chain and materials ecosystem to accelerate commercialization. The collaboration focuses on power components rated at 1,200, 2,300, and 3,300 volts, intended for energy grid infrastructure, energy storage systems, and heavy-duty automotive applications.

While financial specifics remain undisclosed, the deal signals a deeper alignment between the two firms. Both companies confirmed plans for broader collaboration beyond current silicon carbide initiatives, with further details expected in the coming months.
