Japan Pure Chemical Reports Quarterly Profit Decline

Japan Pure Chemical Co. saw its first-quarter net profit slide to 88 million yen for the period ending June 30, down from 135 million yen in the same quarter last year. The decline reflects a broader tightening in margins despite a significant surge in total revenue across the three-month window.

Japan Pure Chemical Reports Quarterly Profit Decline

The company reported revenue of 6.15 billion yen, nearly doubling the 3.41 billion yen recorded in the previous year. However, this growth failed to translate into bottom-line gains, as operating profit dropped sharply to 31 million yen from 92 million yen. Pretax profit followed a similar downward trajectory, settling at 122 million yen compared to 184 million yen a year earlier.

Earnings per share for the quarter stood at 15.25 yen, down from 23.40 yen, with diluted earnings reaching 15.07 yen. These results, based on Japanese accounting standards, indicate a challenging start to the fiscal year. While the company maintains an annual dividend forecast of 230 yen per share, up from 200 yen the previous year, the immediate quarterly figures highlight the pressure on the firm's operational efficiency.
