Mirae Asset Rebrands Korbit as Digital X After Controlling Buyout

South Korea’s financial giant Mirae Asset has officially rebranded the cryptocurrency exchange Korbit as Digital X. This pivot follows the completion of an acquisition that saw Mirae Asset Consulting secure a 97.15% controlling stake, marking the first time a traditional domestic financial group has fully absorbed a major digital asset platform.

Mirae Asset Rebrands Korbit as Digital X After Controlling Buyout

In an internal email sent July 23, founder Park Hyeon-joo signaled that Digital X will serve as the engine for the group’s "Mirae Asset 3.0" strategy. The firm intends to bridge legacy finance with blockchain technology by focusing on real-world asset tokenization, security tokens, and stablecoin products. Park emphasized that the move is not merely a superficial name change but a fundamental intersection of traditional financial expertise and digital market potential.

While the corporate identity shifts, the exchange’s day-to-day operations remain stable. Customers will experience no service interruptions, and the platform will continue to function under existing regulatory frameworks. However, Park has mandated a rigorous compliance overhaul, instructing staff to prioritize anti-money laundering protocols and fraud detection systems as the country refines its Virtual Asset User Protection Act. The acquisition positions Digital X to compete more aggressively in a domestic market where major banks and financial institutions are increasingly embedding themselves into the digital asset ecosystem.
