Salmonella Outbreak Tied to Midwest Poultry Services Eggs

Midwest Poultry Services initiated a voluntary recall on Wednesday covering approximately 1.59 million dozens of eggs sold through retailers including Kroger. While the company maintains it was unaware of specific illnesses connected to its products, the recall followed internal environmental monitoring and root-cause analysis conducted at its two Texas production facilities.

The Food and Drug Administration reports that 40 of 44 patients with available interview data confirmed consuming eggs prior to falling ill. However, the FDA cautions that while Midwest Poultry Services is a common link, it may not account for the entirety of the 98 reported cases currently under investigation by the CDC and state health departments.
