POSCO Trials Tokenized Trade Receivables on Injective Blockchain

South Korean trading giant POSCO International is moving commercial trade claims onto a blockchain, testing a system where real-world receivables are tokenized for settlement. Partnering with LG CNS and the Injective network, the company aims to replace fragmented invoice records with a single, shared ledger for its international subsidiaries.

The pilot project focuses on digitizing amounts owed to POSCO following the delivery of steel, energy, or battery materials. By moving these claims to a shared ledger, the companies intend to automate the issuance, transfer, and settlement processes, effectively reducing the manual reconciliation work typically required when multiple parties check separate systems. The system integrates compliance rules directly into each digital claim, ensuring that ownership and transfer conditions are embedded within the tokenized record itself.

While POSCO International reported 32.37 trillion won in 2025 sales, the firm has yet to disclose the specific transaction values or volume of receivables processed during this proof-of-concept phase. A company spokesperson confirmed the trial successfully validated the integration of AI and blockchain with actual trade data, though no data regarding cost savings or processing speed has been released. The initiative represents an expansion of POSCO’s digital finance strategy, following a successful test earlier this year involving a foreign-currency digital bond that shortened settlement times from five days to three.

LG CNS, which previously supported Bank of Korea central bank digital currency projects and tokenization platforms for Mirae Asset Securities, provides the technical architecture for the pilot. Unlike recent industry experiments involving stablecoin payments, this project focuses specifically on the lifecycle of a financial claim rather than the currency used for final settlement. POSCO is expected to evaluate the potential for broader production deployment across its global units later this year, though the company has not yet named the specific banks or counterparties involved in the ongoing tests.
