The departure of Heitsenrether, coupled with the exits of chief product officer Gerard Francis and former research head Manuela Veloso, has forced a consolidation of power under global chief information officer Lori Beer. As the bank manages a massive $20 billion annual technology budget, it is shifting its chief data and analytics office to align directly with global technology operations.
Scot Baldry, the bank's chief technology officer, now assumes the expanded role of chief data and analytics officer. He is tasked with steering the bank’s overarching AI program, balancing governance with value delivery. He will work closely with Manoj Sindhwani, who takes charge of the data and AI product team, and Mark Birkhead, who is responsible for preparing the firm’s exabyte-scale data stores for generative AI applications.
Risk management remains a critical pillar of this transition. William Patrick Opet continues to oversee information security and technology controls, specifically guarding against AI-enabled cyber threats. Meanwhile, Arvind Joshi maintains oversight of the firm’s massive technology spend, ensuring that the ballooning costs of AI tokens remain aligned with broader resource allocation goals. On the research front, Sumitra Ganesh now leads the bank's AI research team, which remains the largest in the sector according to data from Evident AI. This new leadership structure aims to maintain JPMorgan’s competitive edge as it pushes to turn experimental AI initiatives into tangible financial performance.
