Node operators must transition to Zebra 6.0.0, as the upgrade marks the official end of support for the legacy zcashd software. Beyond supply verification, Ironwood introduces quantum-recoverable notes. This change binds additional data into note construction, creating a path for future recovery protocols to verify ownership should quantum computing threats emerge. However, this does not grant current transactions immediate quantum security; users must actively migrate funds into Ironwood-compatible notes to utilize the new protection. The Zcash Foundation warns that failure to update node software before the fork will result in a loss of consensus with the main chain.
