QatarEnergy Extends LNG Supply Freeze Through September

This latest extension brings the total volume of undelivered fuel to 24 cargoes, representing approximately 3 billion cubic meters of natural gas. For Edison, a unit of France’s EDF, the shortfall represents a significant hit to its long-term import agreement, which typically guarantees 6.4 billion cubic meters of gas annually. The force majeure clause allows QatarEnergy to bypass these contractual obligations without penalty, citing events beyond its control.

Despite the scale of the interruption—which accounts for roughly 17% of capacity at the Ras Laffan hub—Edison remains insulated from the immediate fallout. The Italian utility confirmed it has secured alternative supply sources, ensuring that its own commitments to customers will not be compromised. QatarEnergy, which commands nearly one-fifth of the global LNG market, has yet to provide further comment on the status of its operations.
