Meiji Shipping Profits Slide as Operating Margins Narrow

Meiji Shipping Co. reported a sharp decline in net profit for the first quarter ending June 30, with earnings falling to 899 million yen from 2.90 billion yen during the same period last year. The drop highlights a difficult start to the fiscal year despite revenue holding steady at 15.46 billion yen.

Meiji Shipping Profits Slide as Operating Margins Narrow

The Tokyo-listed firm faced significant pressure on its bottom line as operating profit plummeted to 1.08 billion yen, nearly half of the 2.15 billion yen recorded in 2025. Pretax profit also saw a contraction, dipping to 1.67 billion yen from 1.86 billion yen a year earlier. Consequently, earnings per share for the quarter dropped to 26.42 yen, down from 85.33 yen in the previous year's corresponding period. These figures, prepared under Japanese accounting standards, reflect the broader volatility impacting the shipping sector's profitability.
