By monitoring these systems, Bafin aims to prevent the use of prohibited AI practices, particularly those involving the collection of sensitive data that might subject individuals to unfair disadvantages.
Bafin President Mark Branson emphasized that the priority is maintaining public trust in financial services. The regulator will actively enforce rules to guarantee that algorithms do not inadvertently introduce discriminatory barriers, ensuring equitable access to financial products regardless of how internal automated processes are structured.
