Robinhood Secures UK Crypto License Ahead of Regulatory Overhaul

Robinhood has gained official approval from the Financial Conduct Authority to operate cryptocurrency services in the United Kingdom. The company’s UK subsidiary was added to the regulator’s list of cryptoasset firms on July 31, granting the platform a strategic foothold before a major shift in British financial oversight.

The registration confirms that Robinhood complies with the FCA’s current anti-money laundering requirements. This status places the firm among a group of over 50 registered entities, including Ripple, Kraken, and BlackRock, that have cleared the existing regulatory hurdle. By securing this approval now, Robinhood simplifies its path toward the more rigorous authorization framework the UK intends to roll out by October 2027.

“Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for Robinhood, and we’re excited to take the first important step towards bringing our investing platform to customers in the U.K.,” said Wander Rutgers, President of Robinhood International. While the company has yet to set a firm launch date for its UK crypto offerings, the approval follows a successful second quarter where the platform saw total net revenue climb 32% to $1.31 billion. As the UK prepares to open its new authorization window this September, Robinhood’s existing registration provides a foundation that may accelerate its entry into the British market.
