South Korea Crypto Exchanges Expand Offerings with Four New Markets

South Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, Upbit and Bithumb, opened four new trading markets on August 4, granting local retail investors direct access to the HOME, META2, and USDG tokens. The simultaneous listings highlight a concentrated effort to capture interest in cross-chain DeFi platforms, futarchy governance protocols, and stablecoin assets.

South Korea Crypto Exchanges Expand Offerings with Four New Markets

Upbit initiated trading for the Defi App (HOME) token against the Korean won and Tether at 17:00 KST, exclusively supporting the Base network. To mitigate volatility, the exchange implemented a five-minute block on buy orders and restricted sell orders priced more than 10% below the previous closing figure of 10.1 won. The HOME token saw a 32% price increase leading into the launch, though the exchange cautioned that deposit and withdrawal support remains strictly tied to the Base network to avoid asset loss.

Simultaneously, Bithumb launched Korean won markets for MetaDAO’s META2 and the Paxos-issued USDG at 16:00 KST. Bithumb notably shifted its USDG support from Ethereum to Solana, aligning with Paxos's recent efforts to expand the stablecoin’s utility across the network. Similar to Upbit, Bithumb enforced initial trading restrictions, including a five-minute ban on buy orders and price-range caps for sell orders. While META2 and HOME experienced significant price momentum ahead of the announcements, USDG maintained its dollar peg, underscoring the functional difference between speculative governance tokens and stable assets in the maturing South Korean market.
