Coinbase launches professional derivatives suite in the UK

Professional investors in the United Kingdom now have access to over 170 derivatives contracts on Coinbase, including perpetual futures with up to 50x leverage. The rollout marks a significant expansion of the exchange's regulated product offerings, bridging the gap between traditional financial tools and digital asset markets.

Coinbase launches professional derivatives suite in the UK

The new suite enables eligible clients to trade perpetuals, dated futures, and options across a diverse range of cryptocurrencies, commodities, equities, and foreign exchange pairs. Perpetual contracts dominate the offering, providing 24/7 liquidity and allowing for delta-neutral hedging strategies alongside high-leverage positions. Dated futures, by contrast, feature fixed settlement dates with leverage capped at 20x, incorporating the cost of holding into the entry price rather than utilizing ongoing funding rates.

This expansion arrives on the heels of the exchange securing a MiFID license, which authorized the company to offer traditional financial products alongside its core crypto services. By integrating these tools into a single platform, Coinbase aims to fulfill its "Everything Exchange" strategy, consolidating stocks, derivatives, and digital assets into a unified account structure. The move is designed to provide sophisticated traders with the capital efficiency and risk management instruments standard in traditional finance, well ahead of the UK's planned 2027 crypto regulatory regime.
