Ether.fi Expands Into Neobanking With Tokenized Stocks and Loans

Ether.fi has launched its “Summer” update, transforming its platform into a non-custodial neobank. The app now integrates tokenized equities, commodities, and portfolio-backed loans, allowing users to bypass traditional financial intermediaries while managing crypto holdings, global payments, and decentralized lending within a single interface.

The updated platform leverages an integration with xStocks to offer tokenized versions of stocks and commodities. These assets are housed in self-custodial vaults, utilizing social recovery features for account security. Borrowing is facilitated through a new Aave market on the Optimism network, where users can leverage their existing portfolios as collateral to secure loans at rates hovering around 4%.

CEO Mike Silagadze stated that the project aims to replicate the utility of a conventional bank by providing institutional-grade financial tools to retail users. To simplify the experience, the interface has been stripped of complex crypto jargon, targeting customers who wish to avoid navigating multiple decentralized protocols. The Ether.fi Cash card now supports over 30 currencies and provides 3% cashback, with the company eliminating top-up charges and foreign-exchange fees for premium members.

Despite the broad rollout, the tokenized stock feature faces significant geographic restrictions. American users and residents of certain other jurisdictions are currently excluded from trading these assets due to unresolved regulatory requirements. While the sector for tokenized equity continues to grow—with platforms like Binance’s bStocks and xStocks reaching billions in market value—U.S. access remains stalled by ongoing discussions with the Securities and Exchange Commission regarding the legal status of synthetic versus direct equity ownership. Ether.fi continues to diversify its ecosystem, moving beyond its Ethereum restaking origins to integrate payment services and institutional-grade credit products.
