Bitcoin.com Integrates UAE-Regulated USDU Stablecoin into Wallet

Bitcoin.com is adding the USDU stablecoin to its self-custodial wallet, marking a shift toward integrating regulated assets into non-custodial environments. Issued by Universal Digital Intl. Limited, the token provides users with a dollar-backed asset supported by monthly reserve attestations and oversight from UAE financial authorities.

The integration allows users to hold, send, and receive USDU as an ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network while retaining control of their private keys. By bypassing traditional custodial platforms, the company aims to offer a transparent alternative to opaque stablecoin models. CEO Corbin Fraser emphasized that the move is designed to minimize the need for users to act as forensic accountants to verify their holdings, noting that the token’s registration with the Central Bank of the UAE and its 1:1 reserve structure provide verifiable security.

Universal Digital Intl. Limited operates under dual regulatory oversight, including authorization from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority within the Abu Dhabi Global Market and registration with the Central Bank of the UAE. Reserves are held in liquid form at regulated banks such as Emirates NBD and Mashreq. While the current rollout focuses on storage and transfers, Bitcoin.com intends to expand the utility of USDU to include direct payments between users and merchants. Future features, such as in-app swaps and fiat buy-and-sell capabilities, remain contingent on integrations with third-party service providers and local regulatory compliance.
