Majority of Americans Question Trump Family Crypto Earnings

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released August 19 reveals that 63% of Americans view cryptocurrency profits earned by President Donald Trump and his family as inappropriate. The findings highlight a deep partisan divide and growing public unease regarding the intersection of presidential duties and private commercial interests.

Majority of Americans Question Trump Family Crypto Earnings

The survey, conducted between August 14 and August 17, captures the reaction to financial disclosures showing the Trump family generated over $1.4 billion in crypto-related income throughout 2025. While 92% of Democrats labeled these earnings inappropriate, 69% of Republican respondents defended the activity as acceptable. Beyond specific digital asset ventures, 69% of all participants expressed concern that Trump’s broader business portfolio influences his official decision-making.

These figures stem from a June financial filing, which detailed revenue streams including $800 million linked to World Liberty Financial and $635 million from licensing agreements tied to the TRUMP token. The White House maintains that the President does not participate in daily business operations and that his investments are managed independently. Spokesperson Anna Kelly explicitly stated that the administration operates without conflicts of interest, acting solely in the public's best interest.

Legislative friction remains high as the administration pushes for clearer federal rules for digital assets. Proposed ethics provisions, which would place stricter boundaries on the financial activities of elected officials, have stalled broader crypto market legislation. The debate is further complicated by the recent conditional approval of the World Liberty Trust Company, a move currently under scrutiny by regulators and lawmakers. With the public largely unconvinced by current separation arrangements, these financial ties continue to serve as a focal point for political and ethical debate.
