BNB Chain Set for Pasteur Hard Fork Upgrade

The BNB Smart Chain is scheduled to initiate the Pasteur hard fork on August 25, 2026, at 02:30 UTC. This mandatory network upgrade focuses on tightening bridge security and validator governance, while implementing architectural shifts designed to optimize block processing capacity across the mainnet.

Node operators are required to install client version 1.7.7 and remove the EnableBAL configuration setting to ensure compatibility. While the upgrade introduces significant protocol-level changes, standard users and application developers are not expected to migrate funds or alter existing software. The core of the update rests on three specific proposals: BEP-682, BEP-695, and BEP-675.

BEP-682 secures cross-chain transfers by mandating unique validator entries, preventing the potential manipulation of voting thresholds. Simultaneously, BEP-695 closes security gaps during key rotations, ensuring that pending slash evictions and blacklisted restrictions carry over to new keys. Finally, BEP-675 allows builders to submit pre-executed blocks, a change that shifted processing time in test environments from 125 milliseconds to 15 milliseconds. Although internal QANet testing saw throughput climb from 1,237 to 2,324 transactions per second, officials caution that these performance gains are based on controlled scenarios and remain unconfirmed for live traffic.
