Stablecoin card spending poised for $50 billion surge by 2028

Global stablecoin card spending is set to quadruple to $50 billion annually within four years, according to projections from Hong Kong-based payments firm RedotPay. This anticipated growth follows a milestone month in July, when total card spending using these digital assets surpassed the $1 billion threshold for the first time.

The rise of stablecoins—cryptocurrencies pegged to fiat currencies like the U.S. dollar—reflects their increasing utility in cross-border settlements and as reliable stores of value in volatile economic climates. Data from Paymentscan confirms that the sector is gaining momentum, moving beyond niche crypto circles into broader financial operations.

Jonathan Chan, co-founder at RedotPay, identifies Latin America and Africa as the primary engines for this expansion. He notes that growth in these regions is not solely dependent on existing crypto penetration, but rather on a combination of accessible fiat off-ramps, clear regulatory frameworks, and practical solutions for payment hurdles. RedotPay, which currently services over 8 million users, reports an annualised payment volume of more than $14 billion, underscoring the rapid shift toward digital asset integration in everyday commerce.
