The migration is fueled by frustration with the limited operating hours and complex onboarding processes of legacy financial institutions. According to a report by Blockworks Research, commissioned by MEXC Ventures, 61.5% of surveyed Asian users cite restricted market hours as a primary deterrent. Nearly 80% of respondents stated they would favor crypto platforms to capture price movements during weekend events, such as the volatility witnessed during February 2026 geopolitical tensions.
Trading patterns reveal a clear preference for leverage over spot ownership. While tokenized stocks and real-world assets account for less than 2% of spot volume on centralized exchanges, they represent over 12% of futures volume. In July alone, TradFi-linked futures generated nearly $400 billion in volume. Traders are utilizing perpetual futures to bypass the friction of bank transfers, using stablecoins like USDT to toggle between Bitcoin, gold, and equity indices instantaneously.
Growth remains particularly aggressive in Southeast Asia, where daily stock futures volume climbed by 6,648% in the second quarter. While gold initially served as the primary bridge for crypto-native investors, equity-linked contracts have overtaken precious metals in open interest as of June 2026. Despite this momentum, regulatory hurdles persist; the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission continues to evaluate frameworks for round-the-clock tokenized securities, leaving the long-term status of these synthetic products subject to ongoing oversight. Meanwhile, 51.2% of users identify a lack of market knowledge as the most significant barrier to further adoption.
