Polish Olympic Chief Arrested in Zondacrypto Fraud Probe

Radosław Piesiewicz, head of the Polish Olympic Committee, faces criminal charges linked to the collapse of the Zondacrypto exchange. Prosecutors allege the official leveraged insider information to secure his personal assets while thousands of platform users saw their funds frozen, leaving estimated total losses exceeding 350 million zlotys.

Polish Olympic Chief Arrested in Zondacrypto Fraud Probe

Authorities confirmed the arrest on August 27 following an investigation by the National Prosecutor’s Office in Katowice. Piesiewicz is charged under Articles 230 and 302 of the Polish criminal code, which cover paid influence and the illegal prioritization of specific creditors during insolvency proceedings. Investigators are currently scrutinizing a suspicious €40,000 Patek Philippe watch and evidence that the official received preferential treatment to withdraw his own capital before the exchange halted all customer transactions.

Beyond the financial allegations, the case centers on the close relationship between the Olympic committee and the exchange. Zondacrypto served as the committee's general sponsor, leading to the renaming of the Olympic Center in Warsaw and promises of crypto rewards for athletes. While Piesiewicz has rejected the accusations and claims he is a victim of the exchange’s mismanagement, prosecutors are continuing to trace potential illicit benefits, including travel and hospitality, provided by former Zondacrypto chief Przemysław Kral. As the inquiry expands, authorities have secured 100 million zlotys in assets to assist the more than 3,600 claimants who remain locked out of their accounts.
