Luke Dashjr departs Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN

Luke Dashjr has resigned as chairman, chief technology officer, and director of the Bitcoin mining pool OCEAN. The split, finalized on August 29, follows a mutual agreement with parent company Mummolin Inc. to buy back all of Dashjr’s equity, effectively ending his ownership and leadership role within the firm.

The separation stems from conflicting visions regarding the future of Bitcoin mining following recent protocol developments, though neither side has specified which technical disputes triggered the divide. Dashjr, a veteran in the space who previously founded the Eligius pool, intends to launch a new venture called CONVOY to further his mission of decentralizing mining infrastructure. Details regarding the project’s scope, technical architecture, or launch timeline remain undisclosed.

OCEAN, which secured $6.2 million in seed funding from investors including Jack Dorsey in 2023, confirmed that its operations will continue as planned. The pool remains committed to its non-custodial model, which allows miners to receive rewards directly without pool-controlled intermediaries. While the company has not yet named a replacement for Dashjr’s executive roles, it emphasized that service for existing miners remains uninterrupted. Mummolin Inc., the Wyoming-based entity behind the pool, did not disclose the financial terms of the equity repurchase.
