Solana Governance Under Fire as CEO Questions Inflation and Fee Votes

Michael Hubbard, CEO of SOL Strategies, has challenged the legitimacy of recent Solana governance outcomes, arguing that a rushed inflation cut and inconsistent voting procedures have undermined the network's procedural integrity. He contends that the changes were implemented prematurely, disregarding the potential impact on validators and network participants.

Solana Governance Under Fire as CEO Questions Inflation and Fee Votes

The proposal SGP-0002, which accelerates Solana’s disinflation rate, passed with 67% support, narrowly clearing the required two-thirds threshold. Hubbard criticized the move as an oversimplification of the token's market dynamics, noting that current inflation levels of 4% to 4.5% are not inherently detrimental to performance. He warned that reducing staking rewards could jeopardize the profitability of smaller validators, a concern echoed by Galaxy Research regarding the long-term sustainability of validator operations.

Beyond inflation, Hubbard pointed to a procedural dispute involving SGP-0003, which concerns a redesign of transaction fees. While the final tally suggested the proposal failed under the network's official constitution, proponents argued that different rules were communicated at the start of the voting period. Hubbard maintained that changing the calculation method mid-vote compromised the process. The proposed fee structure, intended to burn more SOL through resource-based charges, has also drawn scrutiny over potential competitive biases that could favor specific automated market makers while increasing costs for other decentralized applications. As the CEO of a Nasdaq-listed infrastructure firm, Hubbard emphasized that these governance shifts create unnecessary financial uncertainty for businesses operating within the Solana ecosystem.
