Corn sales for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 marketing years reached 1.16 million metric tons for the week ending August 27, a figure heavily influenced by net sales reductions of 829,600 tons for the outgoing year. Soybean volume followed a similar pattern, totaling 1.85 million tons despite 94,200 tons in net reductions. Meanwhile, wheat sales for the 2026/27 cycle were recorded at 313,500 tons.
While the figures aligned with forecasts from analysts surveyed by The Wall Street Journal, the market response has been decidedly bearish. Pre-market trading on the Chicago Board of Trade shows corn futures sliding 2.3%, soybeans down 0.9%, and wheat leading the decline with a 4% drop. This performance marks the final full week of the current marketing cycle for corn and soybeans as the industry shifts toward new crop year accounting.
