Chinese Pharma Firms Seek Hong Kong Capital

Two mainland pharmaceutical players are turning to Hong Kong’s financial hub to fuel their expansion, signaling a broader shift as high-tech firms increasingly tap the city’s exchange. The move follows a period of aggressive growth in IPO fundraising, which has more than doubled in the city over the past year.

Chinese Pharma Firms Seek Hong Kong Capital

Shenzhen Salubris Pharmaceuticals officially initiated its application for a Hong Kong listing on Thursday. While the company—which specializes in innovative drugs and medical devices—remains tight-lipped regarding the specific size or timeline of the offering, its recent financial health offers a baseline for investors. The firm reported a 4% increase in net profit for the first half of the year, reaching 390.5 million yuan, or US$58.1 million.

Simultaneously, Genscript Biotech is pursuing a carve-out of its subsidiary, Probio Technology. This spin-off will house the group’s biologics and advanced therapy contract services. The decision follows a recent surge in demand for the company’s AI-enabled drug discovery tools. These entries bolster a market that saw IPO fundraising hit 328.21 billion Hong Kong dollars—roughly US$41.86 billion—during the first seven months of 2026, marking a robust recovery for the exchange.
