US Treasury Targets Turkish Bank Over Iranian Oil Revenue Network

The U.S. Treasury Department has blacklisted Istanbul-based Golden Global Yatirim Bankasi and two of its subsidiaries, effectively severing their access to the dollar-based financial system. The move aims to dismantle a shadow banking network allegedly used to funnel Iranian oil revenues from China into Turkey.

US Treasury Targets Turkish Bank Over Iranian Oil Revenue Network

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent characterized the sanctions as a terminal blow to the bank’s operations, signaling a broader strategy of aggressive financial isolation. According to official statements, Golden Global was established to facilitate the conversion of oil profits into cash and gold, providing correspondent services to accounts linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Qods Force. The bank, which holds approximately $516 million in assets, did not immediately comment on the designation.

This action marks a significant escalation in the administration’s economic campaign against Tehran, with Bessent warning that additional financial institutions face similar scrutiny in the coming weeks. While Washington intends to leverage these measures to force Iran back to the negotiating table, some analysts remain skeptical. Brett Erickson of Obsidian Risk Advisors warned that while the sanctions increase pressure, they may provoke Iranian retaliation that could destabilize the global economy rather than altering the course of the ongoing conflict.
