The initiative, which began in April with participants including UBS, PostFinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, Zurich Cantonal Bank, Banque Cantonale Vaudoise, and Swiss Stablecoin AG, aims to test the practical applications of a digital franc. By incorporating SIX and TWINT, the project now bridges the gap between traditional securities infrastructure and everyday consumer payment networks. Current trials focus on automated transactions, tokenized asset settlement, and conditional payments designed to reduce fraud in e-commerce and public-sector disbursements.
While the project operates under a one-to-one peg to the Swiss franc, it remains strictly experimental. Participants have emphasized that the testing phase does not signal a move toward public issuance or commercial availability. The sandbox utilizes transaction limits and specific safeguards to manage risk, keeping the token isolated from public exchanges or retail wallets. Following the conclusion of trials in 2026, the group intends to publish an overview of their findings, which will serve as the basis for any future decisions regarding a broader market release.
