UAE Taps Avalanche to Power National Digital Identity Vault

The United Arab Emirates is integrating Avalanche blockchain technology into its national digital identity platform, UAEPASS, to enhance its Digital Vault. This upgrade aims to bolster the verification process for 12.5 million users, ensuring document integrity across more than 15,000 services managed by 350 public and private entities.

UAE Taps Avalanche to Power National Digital Identity Vault

The project, announced September 14, represents a strategic shift in how the UAE handles digital documentation. While the system currently serves millions of residents and visitors, the transition to Avalanche infrastructure is designed to scale capacity and performance. Deca4 will spearhead the implementation in coordination with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), while Ava Labs provides the necessary technical architecture.

Crucially, the system avoids storing sensitive personal data directly on the blockchain. Instead, the Digital Vault utilizes cryptographic records to confirm that a document remains authentic and unaltered. This method allows organizations to verify files without the security risks associated with keeping personal information on a public ledger. By separating the verification record from the document itself, users maintain control over their data while relying on a decentralized framework for proof of legitimacy.

Saeed Belhoul, Dgov operations director, noted that the upgrade is intended to secure the platform's reliability for years to come. For Ava Labs, the partnership marks a significant expansion into public digital infrastructure outside the United States. While the integration leverages Avalanche's speed and scalability, the project focuses strictly on document verification rather than financial transactions, positioning the blockchain as a foundational utility for the UAE's digital economy.
