Agomab Therapeutics Advances Lung Fibrosis Drug to Phase 2

A 50% reduction in pSMAD3 proteins among patients treated with AGMB-447 has cleared the path for Agomab Therapeutics to launch a Phase 2 trial. The Belgian biopharmaceutical firm confirmed its candidate successfully inhibited the TGF-beta/ALK5 pathway during early-stage testing for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

The clinical trial evaluated a twice-daily 4.5mg dose of the experimental therapy, which demonstrated a favorable safety profile alongside its biological activity. While researchers also tested a 6mg regimen, that higher dosage resulted in an increased frequency of adverse events, though investigators noted no emergence of unexpected safety signals.

Chief Medical Officer Philippe Wiesel emphasized that the local delivery mechanism within the lungs provides a distinct therapeutic advantage. Building on these results, the company plans to initiate the INSPIRIA study later this year to further assess the drug's efficacy in managing the progressive scarring associated with the disease.
