The expansion allows qualified individuals—defined as those reaching VIP 3 status or maintaining a $1 million balance—to allocate capital into portfolios managed by professional trading teams. This shift mirrors the structure of separately managed accounts in traditional finance, where investors gain access to sophisticated strategies without the need for managers to establish dedicated fund vehicles. According to Catherine Chen, head of Binance VIP and institutional, the move is a direct response to growing demand from private clients for institutional-grade financial tools.
Growth on the platform has been rapid. By September, Capital Connect hosted 212 portfolios from 77 professional teams, more than doubling the figures recorded in May. While the marketplace initially focused exclusively on digital assets, participants have increasingly incorporated traditional financial instruments, including market-neutral and long-short strategies. Despite the expanded access, Binance maintains that all funds remain within its custody, and the exchange explicitly notes that it does not guarantee performance or capital preservation for these high-risk allocations.
