Chord Energy Sells Marcellus Assets for $550 Million

A $550 million cash injection is heading to Chord Energy as the company offloads its non-operated Marcellus position to Posco International. The sale, which follows Chord’s strategic review after the Enerplus acquisition earlier this year, marks a definitive pivot toward concentrating the firm’s entire production footprint within the Williston Basin.

Chord Energy Sells Marcellus Assets for $550 Million

The divested assets span 32,000 net acres, currently yielding about 121 million standard cubic feet of residue gas per day. Chord has already secured a $55 million deposit, with the final balance expected to settle during the fourth quarter.

Chief Executive Danny Brown described the deal as highly accretive, noting that the move allows the company to harvest substantial value from assets deemed non-core following the May 2024 Enerplus merger. By shedding these holdings, Chord effectively exits the Marcellus region to focus exclusively on its core operations in the upper Midwest and central Canada.
