Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Laguna conference, Isom noted that the airline has successfully managed trade-offs so far, maintaining solid revenue despite minor dips in load factors. However, the path forward remains tied to the fuel market. CFO Devon May confirmed that while overall capacity is set to rise in the fourth quarter, the airline is already trimming December schedules to offset rising expenses. The company has also lowered its growth expectations for 2027 compared to projections made earlier this year.
Management maintains that American holds an industry-leading position regarding the gap between unit revenue and controllable costs. Isom expressed confidence that once fuel prices stabilize, the airline will see a return to improved margins and consistent free cash flow. Strengthening the balance sheet and reducing leverage remain primary objectives, with leadership anticipating these financial improvements will translate into stronger returns for shareholders.
