Anchorage Digital Adds Institutional Custody for Etherlink Assets

Institutional investors can now hold tokenized uranium and six other Etherlink-based assets within the secure, federally chartered environment of Anchorage Digital Bank. The move integrates these layer 2 tokens directly into existing custody workflows, bypassing the traditional settlement hurdles that have long complicated commodity-backed digital holdings.

The expansion brings support for xU3O8—a token representing physical uranium—alongside WXTZ, stXTZ, wrapped Ether, and stablecoins USDT, USDC, and USDSM. By placing these assets under the bank’s existing institutional infrastructure, Anchorage enables firms to manage tokenized real-world assets using established policy controls and operational processes. This integration is designed to satisfy the rigorous risk frameworks required by auditors and fund administrators, who often scrutinize unfamiliar collateral.

For institutional allocators, the primary appeal lies in the transition from traditional, slow-moving commodity markets to on-chain settlement. Trading physical uranium typically involves complex intermediaries and settlement periods spanning weeks, whereas the xU3O8 token offers settlement in minutes. Nathan McCauley, CEO and co-founder of Anchorage Digital, noted that while interest in tokenized assets is high, institutions have been hindered by a lack of secure, regulated custody options. According to Ben Elvidge of Trillitech, this regulatory backing removes the single biggest obstacle preventing these assets from appearing on institutional balance sheets.
