Apollo Injects $1.25 Billion to Fuel BMG and Concord Merger

Apollo Global Management has deployed $1.25 billion in equity to restructure the debt obligations of BMG, effectively clearing the path for its integration with Concord. This capital infusion targets asset-backed securities linked to a massive catalog of over one million songs, strengthening the combined entity’s underlying financial foundation.

Apollo Injects $1.25 Billion to Fuel BMG and Concord Merger

The deal grants Apollo a noncontrolling interest in a BMG subsidiary that manages these music rights. By liquidating specific liabilities, the investment firm aims to optimize the capital structure of the merged music giant. The transaction highlights a broader trend of private equity firms positioning themselves as primary capital providers for large-scale corporate consolidation.

BMG, the music division of the German conglomerate Bertelsmann, finalized its combination with the U.S.-based Concord on September 1. Bertelsmann currently holds a 67% majority stake, while Concord shareholders maintain a 33% interest overseen by Great Mountain Partners. Looking ahead, the company intends to leverage this improved liquidity to accelerate investments in talent and AI-driven technologies, betting on a shift in how music rights are valued and monetized in the current digital landscape.
